Fred Hampton was a brilliant organizer and uncompromising revolutionary whose clarity of purpose and deep connection to the people made him one of the most formidable threats to the structures of racial capitalism in the United States. As chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, he helped build the Rainbow Coalition—uniting Black, Latino, and poor white communities in a shared struggle against exploitation, repression, and state violence. Hampton’s politics were rooted not in abstract theory, but in the lived needs of the working class: free breakfast programs, political education, and community defense. He understood that liberation required dismantling the entire system of imperialist domination, and that solidarity across oppressed peoples was the foundation of that struggle. At just 21, he was assassinated in a coordinated FBI-police raid—proof of how dangerous his vision was to those in power. Yet his words, discipline, and example remain etched into the fabric of revolutionary organizing everywhere: “You can kill a revolutionary, but you can’t kill the revolution.”
