Sylvia Rivera was a fearless and uncompromising voice for liberation who understood that any struggle for justice that left the most marginalized behind was no struggle at all. A trans Latina street organizer shaped by poverty, racism, and police violence, she helped ignite the modern queer and trans rights movement through her role in the Stonewall uprising and the founding of STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries).
